What's the word, bird?

 Where's your word?

So, I have recommended the book Eat, Pray, Love to at least forty women in my life and those who took me up on the recommendation now understand why. It's the most self-evaluating, self-loving, soul-searching and downright freeing (or invitation to become freeing) book I've ever read. period.

I saw the movie last night and despite the chatty cathies in the theater, it was just as utterly amazing as the book.

Going back to the book, because I dare not spoil the movie...

Sitting in an outdoor cafĂ© in Rome, Liz Gilbert’s friend declares that every city—and every person—has a word. Rome’s is “sex,” the Vatican’s “power”; Gilbert declares New York’s to be “achieve,” and throughout the book (and movie) she seeks to find what her word is, what defines her.

I am also in search of my word (a nice one) and I invite you to join me in finding your word. And when you do find it, I hope you share, because you know I will!

Jean-Michel Basquiat...

Anything but the SAMO. How I love Basquiat. Create in Peace.

I try to think about life."

Sonic Satisfaction: Marvin Gaye

Inspiration: Artist Patrick Nagel

Beginning in 1976, Nagel began contributing regularly to Playboy, which extended the exposure and popularity of "the Nagel Woman" to a huge and loyal audience. In 1978, he created his first poster image for Mirage Editions. He also painted the cover of rock group Duran Duran's Rio album, which became the number one album in the world.

SFV Love.

As much as I love music....

it has completely manipulated (err destroyed) the english language and a whole bunch of other languages. Tell me you haven't stumbled on the spelling of "Fabulous" at least once...F-A-B-O! Or you haven't pronounced "Genuine" like that baby-haired singer's name?

I found a hilariously helpful youtube page today...and all of your favorite designers finally get the record set straight with correct pronunciations of their labels. When you are ready to drop stacks on a "make up bag" say it correctly and buy me one too!

Keith Haring's Pop Shop est. 1986

From 1986 to 2005, Keith Haring's Pop Shop served to fulfill the artist's desire to make his iconic and beloved imagery accessible to the widest possible range of people both during his lifetime and posthumously through the Keith Haring Foundation, Inc.

Haring, who embraced the idea of his artwork engaging popular culture, opened the doors to his unique and innovative retail environment. The original shop interior included Haring's floor to ceiling murals, which provided a pioneering clubhouse atmosphere for the sale of T-shirts, hats and other apparel and accessories bearing his well-known imagery. Haring, who viewed the Pop Shop as an extension of his work, stated:

"Here's the philosophy behind the Pop Shop: I wanted to continue the same sort of communication as with the subway drawings. I wanted to attract the same wide range of people and I wanted it to be a place where, yes, not only collectors could come, but also kids from the Bronx…this was still an art statement.

Pop Shop and Design is a registered trademark of the Estate of Keith Haring.

Strange Fruit Vintage's Memphis Pop Up Shop at Odessa on August 6th will be an engaging tribute to one of my favorite artists of all time, Keith Haring.  Enjoy!
